Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
An important representative commented the incident left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
